I’m concerned my boy’s thumb may be fractured from getting hit with a baseball. What must i do?
His thumb is inflamed after some black and blue in the first knuckle in the finger nail. He’s just a little movement but it’s painful.
His thumb was hit within an All Star game, 7/3. No Ortho paperwork avail. until following the Holiday. We now have iced, given Ibuprofene and set in splint. Regrettably, no walk-inches or ER or Urgent cares have Ortho paperwork set for the Holiday weekend. We now have an appt on Mon morning, 7/7 by having an Ortho doc. We do not know a rest. Should we obtain x-rayed anyway. I’m told the ER with no Ortho will just splint it anyway.
Any educated advice could be useful. I’m very worried about the amount of time in the possible break before Ortho doc can review an X-ray.
You need to still take him to ER. Even when you are not seeing an Ortho doc until Monday, they might still splint it for you personally and let you know how you can take care of it before you begin to see the doc you need to see. Whether it’s only a simple break, you should not need to visit a professional anyway. Any doc can splint up for you personally.
Really, take him towards the ER and allow them to view it and stablize it for you personally. Keep icing it and provide him Tylenol or Advil for that discomfort. Never ice it in excess of ten mins at any given time. Place the ice on for 10, then remove for 10, after that time for 10, then off…you receive the image.
You need to get it xrayed in the ER, if it isn’t damaged, you don’t have to begin to see the specialist or get it splinted. If it’s damaged, they can stablize it in the ER until you can observe the doc you need to see.
