Is there any sites that allow me to look at places to travel to?

I use GoogleEarth.. I live in australia and want to move somewhere else in this country coming from Melbourne..
But the thing is I’m not going there for a holiday, its for longterm rental a year minimum. Even a site with tourist information would be good to give us an idea of a place.
(Like population, photos, warnings, info etc.)
